Where do I meet educated Black professionals? Where do they hang out?
How to avoid "hood rat" black folks (like the criminals and homeless) and meet more young Obama and Michelle like men and women?

2022.01.26 02:29 Felderburg Forerunner 245 Alert Tones too quiet
I've recently upgraded from a 210 to a 245. The alert tones during a workout on the 245 are MUCH quieter than the 210. I can sort-of hear the 5 beeps before an interval ends fine, and the vibration helps.
The problem was when I did some 400 repeats today. I got loads of little beeps and vibrations when I was too fast/slow, and given how short a 400 is, it made me constantly look at my watch, because I wasn't sure, towards the end of a repeat, whether I was done or if the watch was just bleeping and blooping at me. I did have my target pace "range" set to just one pace; do I need to have an actual range so that I don't get these alerts so much?
And is there a way to turn up the alert tones during a workout just in general?

2022.01.26 02:29 ouchthatburnt Alcohol Intolerance and Loneliness
I love drinking. I’m 35, did ten years in the navy and drank a fifth a night routinely at some points. That obviously tapered out as I got older, but I still had a couple every night. I love social drinking, drinking alone, and most of all drinking bourbon with my wife and listening to music.
About two years I drank a beer and vomited until I was retching bile. Tried again the next night, same result. Tried half a beer. Then a quarter. I literally can’t take one sip of any type of alcohol without puking until I’m dry heaving and yellow bile. I sweat really heavily. And turn bright red.
I’ve developed an “Alcohol Intolerance.” I haven’t drank in two years. It sucks. In my mid 30s I’d be a much more responsible drinker but I can’t even do that. This is supposed to afflict eastern Asians. I am not Asian in the slightest, my grandparents were from the Balkans.
The worst part about it is there’s no one to commiserate with. There’s nothing on the internet for people to congregate and ruminate on this affliction. Doctors just tell me I’m lucky because now I won’t drink again, which is healthy. People who don’t know me probably think I’m in recovery because I can’t have even one sip, ever.
Don’t get me wrong, I have learned to enjoy my nights and my weekends sober, which is a demon I would have had to face and I’m better for it. But I just want to have half a glass of Woodford Reserve with my wife and watch 2000s music videos on YouTube. It’s like mourning a loved on that nobody else cares about. I’m going to an all inclusive resort next week. I used to put down drink after drink all day and then bottle service in the room. Now I will just watch my wife drink and I’ll have some virgin coladas and daqueries. And again, I’ll love my time there because I’m happy without alcohol. But damn it, I just want to have the full experience.
Anyone out there going through the same thing? What were your favorite things to do? Favorite drink? I can’t be the only person on the entire internet. It’s such a lonely condition.

2022.01.26 02:29 hufflepizza Exercise makes me feel sick and weak.
Hi there. I’m 23f 5’3 and about 195 lbs. I have quite a few medical problems. Endometriosis, CRPS (and some other maybe-related-maybe-not pain/nerve issues), and unmanaged narcolepsy type 1 (haven’t been able to handle any med I’ve tried so far). Depression and anxiety have also come with all of that. I’ve also had a couple of doctors mention POTS, and it was in one of my charts at some point, but I don’t remember being tested for it?
I’ve had a horrible time with exercise since I was probably 16. It doesn’t matter how gently and slowly I start when getting back into exercising. I always end up feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck within two months max. Usually starts hitting me 2 weeks to a month in. I feel far more exhausted than usual, super weak, and almost fluish. For a short while, I thought it was just because I kept starting out too aggressively. But I’ve tried everything and I could literally start out by gentle stretching and a 15 minute walk twice a week and this would start happening. I get to the point where I can barely do anything at all for a couple of weeks or more after, and certainly don’t have the energy to try to “push through” and keep exercising. And I feel like I keep getting weaker and weaker in general every time I decide to give it another try. I’m actually kind of scared to try at all anymore. It’s honestly getting really hard to handle at this point, and I don’t know what to do or even what kind of doctor to see about it. Beyond just majorly needing to lose weight and the fact that movement is super important in general, I actually really love exercising. I’ve always really enjoyed walking my dog, sprinting on the treadmill, biking, swimming, weight training, dancing, and yoga, but I just physically cannot do any of it anymore. (Not sure if it could be related, but I’ve also dealt with weird heart palpitations for around 4 years or so now. How often it happens isn’t consistent and I haven’t been able to figure out any triggers or patterns, but I’ll have this weird “flutter” that makes me cough. Sometimes it happens a few times in a row.)
Any ideas on what could be going on? Or even just who to talk to about it? For a long time, it’s been kind of at my the bottom of my list of things to deal with because it just felt like the least important thing. I’m also nervous about going to see a doctor and getting blown off and told it’s just because I’m fat, as that has happened to me in the past with other issues. But I’m getting so sick of not being able to do things I love to do. Things that are genuinely helpful for my mental health. So I’m thinking it might be time to get it checked out.
